I have just finished listening to an audio book of Agatha Christie via youtube called The Man in the Brown Suit. It is surprisingly a mix of mystery romantic story set in South Africa long time ago. I started listening to it a couple of days ago and thought that it would be a straight forward mystery story but it has unfolded to be more than that. I thoroughly enjoyed the narration and twist of how the story went. It reads like a modern tale except for the undeniably old technology employed. The plot itself could have been easily made into a more modern setting.
There were a lot of interestingly created character. I like the lead adventuress, and even the main villain. It's a light read that doesn't leave a bad taste in the mouth after all the misdeeds that has happened in the book. It wasn't written that way.
There's this part of me wanting to dive into another AC book right away but I'll try to hold it off for a whle. I'm thinking of looking up another old favorite writer from Canada this time, a bit different genre but older setting nonetheless. I'll check now if I can find her audiobooks in youtube now.
AC audio books has just been recently available online, this year actually, and I had been looking for it on youtube for a while. Sure, I can find it somewhere, ready to download, but there is this undeniable ease of simply streaming it through youtube and being able to listen to it on the fly. Power to youtube for this little delights. :D

Gift-giving, Party planning, etc.
As the holiday season is fast coming by, I have to succumb to preparing some food and gifts as little as I could. We really don't observe the Christmas thing but we try to have at least some special food and activity around those days. I'd like to channel most of it to the New Year's though.
Nevertheless, since I have a little boy who really cannot be totally oblivious to the gift/christmas/ frenzy atmosphere all around and some kids that I feel like giving some gifts too, I have set myself to prepare even just a bit.
Some books that are really not age-appropriate to my son anymore have to find someplace where they can also be appreciated. We have decided to give away some of these this season and promote the love of reading. Good thing is that kiddo also sees the whole idea there. Or so I hope. ;)
Some of the books that I had in my list are these:
Grover's ABC Treasure Chest
Henry and the Elephant (A Thomas the Tank Engine Storybook)
Dinny the Dinosaur
Santa's Christmas List
some books from a local publisher Dolphin
Upon searching for other gift ideas for the grandparents, I had found some interesting birthday party ideas (for the future), and I am linking it here.
creative kids - ideas on crafts, party planning, kids activities
Tips for Planning a Kids Birthday Party - 5 Tips on Party Planning
Easy Homemade Presents for 6-8 yos.
Christmas Cookie Recipe - a gingerbreadman cookie
More later.

Three Men and a Maid
Upon searching for an audio book to download for my aunt to listen to, I checked out this book. It's pretty short, light read and funny. I might have seen this plot on movies/tv a lot of times before but it sure is a good try to listen to an audiobook for a change.
From librivox.org, I started to listen to it. It actually made me laugh out loud at times. Good thing I am listening while doing chores at home and not in somewhere in public. It is not really hilariously funny but it does have the occasional humor to it. I loaded it up in my mobile player yesterday and hopefully finish it up on the 4th or 5th of this month. Then I can move on to another book. ;)

Rilla of Ingleside
As I look over my previous entries before, I've come across some typos, and things alike. Ihaven't done a lot of editing before publishing anything coz all I want to be able to do is save whatever is running on my mind. Excuses, excuses. I will have to polish it off soon.
These days kept me busy with schoolwork for me. Nonetheless, the pull of something to listen to even while I am doing the dishes, or folding up the clothes. I fancied Rilla on Ingleside one day and started listening to it. The first 5 chapters just played repeatedly for a while until I finally got tired of it and really decided to "really" listen. After getting past it, the interest on the book started building up.
Comparing it to the Anne series, which I thought I completed except for this, this one is a bit heavy. Melancholic. I was looking for a setting of the-old-days this book brought me to a period of war in history. It may not be as godd as the Anne Frank's Diary but it was set on a little far from the was area. Geographically. Still same sufffering of the people living during the war. I'm not sure if it was World War 1 or 2, I must go back to my world history lessons ;(. My bet is it's 2nd one.
This made me reflect again on the the atrocities of war. Not exactly first-hand recounting of what took place that time but how other people felt and lived. To live in the world during war time even you're miles away from the war zone still would be felt somehow. More than fifty years ago since the last World War took place and it might seem a long time ago. Some veterans still live til this day but it won't be long that the effects and lives of war may be forgotten. We might not be very apprehensive of any possibility of yet another war again. God forbid.
Confession. This book made me cry. Death of a brother. A brother believed to be a coward. Yet after braving the frontlines of the war, finds himself no coward at all. It is better to have died fighting so that others may live without fear, than to live in fear, and remember the sad pictures of life during the war.
Going back to the Anne series, I found out that I may have seem to miss one. My next book on the list would be "Rainbow Valley." I may need to take a break from Montgomery's books for now though. I'm digging up the "Further Chronicles of Avonlea" but I may "reshelf" it for a while. If I could find an A.Christie audio book, that would be to my liking now. If not, any mystery/detective one will suffice.
'Til my next one.
